The Challenge

In a context of increasing digitalization of local commerce, the Agence du Numérique (AdN) wanted to take action to support Walloon retailers. The goal was to raise awareness about the importance of digital tools in their day-to-day business. The real challenge was to design and deliver a large-scale awareness program, accessible to a diverse and sometimes non-digital audience. It was also essential to mobilize local stakeholders and adapt content to the realities of 60 Walloon cities. Finally, the program needed to encourage concrete action, by providing structured guidance toward a successful digital transition.

Our Solution

To meet this need, we designed and facilitated 60 digital awareness sessions across Wallonia. Each session was based on a digital maturity self-assessment and a catalog of targeted training courses adapted to different retailer profiles. We conducted active fieldwork to mobilize local authorities, business federations, and associations. Each session was customized to local needs, featuring interactive educational content, concrete examples, and clear pathways toward tailored digital support. The entire project was carried out in close collaboration with the Agence du Numérique (AdN) and the Union des Classes Moyennes (UCM) — both key partners in the initiative.

The Results

The program successfully raised awareness among hundreds of Walloon retailers about the challenges and opportunities of digital transformation. Through a participatory approach, each participant left with a clear understanding of their digital maturity level, enabling them to identify practical actions to advance their business. The mobilization of local stakeholders strengthened the project’s regional impact, creating a positive, long-lasting dynamic on the ground. The developed materials, training paths, and educational tools remain reusable over time, ensuring the program continues to lay the groundwork for a sustainable digitalization of local commerce.
