The Challenge

The AWEX (Wallonia Export & Investment Agency) wanted to modernize its internationalization support system for Walloon companies — particularly microbusinesses, SMEs, and startups. The goal was to develop a digital diagnostic tool capable of quickly and effectively assessing a company’s readiness for export. This system needed to filter requests and propose tailored support pathways based on each company’s profile and needs. The strategic challenge was to integrate this tool into AWEX’s broader digital transformation process, ensuring a more efficient and structured approach to business support. Ultimately, the objective was to offer more relevant and personalized guidance, built on a clear, scalable evaluation of each company’s international maturity.

Our Solution

As part of this project, we were tasked with optimizing the existing diagnostic questionnaire, in close collaboration with AWEX, E&Y, and ACEMIS. From the start, we carried out a critical analysis of the initial questionnaire to identify its limitations and improvement areas. We then reformulated questions, proposed new entries, and designed a precise, coherent scoring and weighting system. In addition, we provided concrete recommendations for evolving the tool into an intuitive, autonomous online self-assessment platform. Throughout the mission, we applied a rigorous, user-centered approach, taking into account the diversity of business profiles and economic contexts across Wallonia.

The Results

This mission led to the creation of a completely redesigned questionnaire — clearer, more structured, and perfectly aligned with the needs of companies preparing for export. The tool now enables a reliable assessment of international readiness, while facilitating efficient orientation toward relevant AWEX services. It integrates seamlessly into AWEX’s digital ecosystem, including the CRM, user journey tools, and internal systems. At the same time, it provides a solid foundation for the future development of an autonomous, scalable digital self-assessment platform. Ultimately, this project strengthens the strategic coherence of AWEX’s internationalization support, making it more targeted, more user-focused, and fully aligned with the agency’s digital transformation vision.
